Kenneth N. Taylor
For Dr. Kenneth Taylor, making Scripture accessible for all people was his life's passion — beginning with his own family.
Let's Call Us Get Started Now
Concerned that his ten children struggled with the King James Bible, Taylor began paraphrasing Scripture so nightly readings would make sense. In 1955, on his Chicago commute, he started rewriting the New Testament into modern English.
After seven years and many rejections, Ken and Margaret used their limited savings to publish Living Letters — and a publishing ministry was born.
Our Mission TimelineIn 1962 Taylor exhibited Living Letters at the Christian Booksellers Association. Billy Graham soon distributed half a million copies through crusade telecasts.
In 1971 the complete Living Bible was released and became the best-selling book in the United States for the next three years — making Scripture clearer for everyday readers.
Taylor insisted royalties support Tyndale House Foundation mission projects. He served as president until 1984 and as chairman until his death in 2005 — and the calling continues today.
